This year's Periscope is the most detailed account ever assembled of early days in Pinyon, a community in the local mountains on Highway 74 above Palm Desert. The author, Harry M. Quinn, grew up surrounded by legendary mountain characters. He had a rare knack for listening to adults, memorizing both their anecdotes and their quirks of personality.
